Super Red Ficus: The Philippines may not be as blessed with maples that turn red in autumn as Japan. Other countries but we have this popular ficus species that gives that feeling of autumn. Because of its red leaves.  Well the red pigment is temporary and in contrary to maples that turn red before falling from the branches, red ficus’s leaves are already red once they appear on the branches as new shoots.  A few days after being expose to the sun, it turns to green.

This red ficus has been in my garden for more almost 10 years. I acquired this tree as a nursery stock. Just 2 weeks after defoliation, here’s how it looked:

I am just giving it a few more weeks to regain energy . It should be ready for some major wiring again.  I am particularly interested. in bending this straight branch as it kills the continuity of the movement due to its straight character. Or maybe not, please share your thoughts!
