Removing the Large and Unwanted Root of a Bougainvillea
Since the day I collected this 21J Bougainvillea, the root crossing over the other major ones has always been an eye sore. I didn’t remove it as advised by a good friend. He suggested that the tree may need to use it for an easy recovery after planting. More roots, more chances of survival. So I left it there.
After allowing the plant grow wild for a few weeks, I just could not take it anymore. I have been itching to remove this unpleasant looking root.
I decided on the extent of the removal with a marker.
Using my newly purchased saw from a Japanese Surplus shop, I deliberately cut the top part. This part connects the root to the main trunk.
It’s a challenged to cut as you have to consider not disturbing the entire plant.
Finally, a breath of relief.
The decision to remove the roots seems to go along with the acceptable rules in bonsai pretty well. The tree’s movement from the base is now more visible.
Stay tuned for updates!
