Different Bonsai Sizes And Names

Share
There is a bit of discussion regarding the right name for different bonsai sizes. And for many years, the Japanese have sorted this out using a classification still being used worldwide as the basis of judging in competitions.

There are several different bonsai sizes, including:

  1. Miniature bonsai – These bonsai trees are typically less than 6 inches tall and are suitable for beginners.
  2. Small bonsai – These bonsai trees are between 6 and 12 inches tall and are suitable for intermediate bonsai enthusiasts.
  3. Medium bonsai – These bonsai trees are between 12 and 24 inches tall and are suitable for advanced bonsai enthusiasts.
  4. Large bonsai – These bonsai trees are more than 24 inches tall and suitable for expert bonsai enthusiasts.
  5. Extra large bonsai – These bonsai trees are large, often over 36 inches in height, and suitable for expert bonsai enthusiasts with extensive experience.

It’s important to note that the size of a bonsai tree can vary based on the species of tree and the age of the tree. The size of the pot in which the bonsai tree is grown can also affect its overall size.
