Time to Plant Rice

Nothing can be more relaxing than the view of this landscape.  Green fields, the calm wind and the silent afternoon in the rice farm.

Farmers, in the start of rainy seasons July-September, will cultivate the farm lands in preparation for the rice planting season.  Rice will be ready for harvest after 3-4 months.

In Manila, some stores have separate corner for rice coming from Mindoro.  They simply call it as Mindoro Rice.  Mindoro rice has its own unique characteristics the set it apart from other rice harvested from other provinces.  It is maybe because its taste and texture is different yet tastier.

Farmers manually plant rice in columns.  It is quite painstaking job.  Each set is made of 3-5 established young rice sprouts.

Above is how it looks like after planting.

This rice field is just at the foot of a mountain.  Farmers patiently plant while under the sun.  They’d take a break every hour.  5 of them can finish an hectare of land within a day

Some live just right there in the fields to make sure that all is well in the farm.  They live in wooden house called nipa hut (bahay kubo).

Up close.  A bunch of rice sprouts.

Towering coconut trees are also everywhere.
So, Rice anyone?
