Successful Air Layer Of Sui Mei or Water Jasmine / Wrightia Religiosa

Share
This is the result of my first attempt to air layer a Sui Mei or Water Jasmine (Wrightia religiosa). After about a month and a half, it has grown noticeable roots that reaches the surface.  At this point, it must be ready to be planted in a separate pot and grow on its own as an individual tree.
It started out from this mother plant which I purchased from a weekend market in Taguig City.  When I got a chance to go home to here in Mindoro, I brought it with me.  I let it settle in this corner for a few weeks before I started the air layer.  This the first Sui Mei in my collection. And I am really excited to reproduce as this kind of material is rare and a bit pricey as it is not growing locally.

At first, I would not notice the roots from a birds eye view.

I was curious to find out how it’s gone so I checked from underneath and found the roots surfacing.

I didn’t waste anymore time.  After removing the plastic, I immediately planted it into a plastic pot with a well draining potting mix. I am giving a few more weeks to grow in it before transferring to a stronger and bigger pot.
