FAST Growing Premna Cuttings as Bonsai

I love collecting Yamadoris in the wild, especially when I can do it with my bonsai friends. But I can’t deny the fact that I am also a big fan of sustainable bonsai. When I say sustainable bonsai, I mean using bonsai materials that have been propagated through seeds, cuttings, or air-layering.

Many Pinoy Bonsai collectors and artists are already practicing different bonsai propagation methods. I know a few bonsai friends in my local circle who have done the same. And so far, the methods are doing well for them.

Propagating bonsai through cuttings is fairly easy and is by far my favorite method. However, only a limited number of species work well in cuttings propagation. So I only focus on the ones that go well with cuttings propagation.

Some of the trees I find easy to propagate through cuttings are:

Ficus (Balete)
Premna microphyllia (Alagao)
Hibiscus tiliaceus
Triphasia trifolia (Lime berry or Lemonsito)
Vitex parviflora (Tugas)

I have a lot of cuttings in my garden as of writing this blog. And I am happy that most of them are thriving well. I won’t be surprised that one day, my garden will look like a jungle for the cuttings that have grown everywhere.

I recently got a chance to re-pot this group of cuttings that I neglected a couple of months ago. I am surprised at how their roots developed so fast; behold, they all have the potential I am looking for.

When I saw the bare baby premnas, I didn’t waste any more time and immediately replanted them into their own pots to give them their own sense of individuality.

I hope you enjoy the pictures!

These little babies are candidates for Mame bonsai. I have a very small collection of Mame size bonsai; hopefully, these little ones will add to the number.
Stay tuned for my next update!
