Before, it was popular for children to suck on the sweet nectar of the blooming Santan flower. According to an herbalist or expert in medicinal plants, aside from being decorative, the flowers and leaves of the santan plant also have health benefits.

“For ordinary people, it’s very important to know that regular plants like santan have medicinal benefits because modern medicine is very expensive,” said Pestano, the herbalist.

“But we need to be taught how to use them properly,” Pestano added.

Studies show that santan flowers have antioxidant properties. They contain flavonoids that are good for heart disease, asthma, and stroke.

Tea made from boiled santan can help people with hypertension and irregular menstruation.

The santan plant’s leaves have anti-inflammatory and antihistamine properties. Drinking boiled leaves can also be beneficial against ulcers and digestive problems.
